Research Interests:

My experience is in pure and applied fields of geomorphology, geology, remote sensing, GIS, plus instrument design focused on geophysical flows. I have participated in NASA planetary missions to Mars and Venus and in landing site selection for MER class rovers. I founded the Geophysical Flow Observatory within JCET and have led or participated in 30 major field tests in Taiwan, Italy, Peru, Pakistan, Morocco, USA, and the UK working on land (mountains, deserts, and glaciers), at sea and in the air. I have experience with data from satellites, UAVs, sonar, SAR and GPR, air and ground based laser scanners as well as range of ground sensors.

He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Geology at University of Buffalo, SUNY, a Visiting Scientist at the Smithsonian Institute and a visiting scholar the the Royal United Services Institute. He has 14 years of experience in earth and planetary research. His research interests are in the area of mass movement dynamics both on Earth and the terrestrial planets combining field measurements with remotely sensed data. He has led or participated in over 22 major field tests and campaigns. He is the author of journal articles, technical reports, conference proceedings papers, education videos for Middle School age, and has given numerous public presentations of his work. Dr. Bulmer obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography at University of London, King's College in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Astronomy & Physics (Planetary Volcanology) at University College London in 1994. He has conducted research at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Goddard Space Flight Center, and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Dr. Bulmer serves on the American Geophysical Union Tellers Committee and the Landslide Working Group of the Committee for Earth Observing Satellites. He has received grants from NASA, ESA, CSA, ISA, NSF, National Geographic, Royal Geographical Society, Smithsonian Institution and Radarsat International.
